The adventure of the film begins when Neo begins asking that simple question: "What is The Matrix?". And what some viewers may ask is why the title? A matrix, in mathematical terms, is a rectangular table of numbers, values. Both the opening and closing scenes show a sequence of numbers, which represent a trace program used by the matrix. The series of numbers resemble the structure of matrices, a link to the title. The word matrix is also relevant to the computer world, linking to the virtual world of the Matrix. In order to create computer graphics a lot of computation of matrices is necessary. The title of the movie is appropriate due to the word’s meanings and relevance to computer graphics, which are necessary in the creation of the artificial world, the Matrix.
